HOW TO REVITALISE BATHROOMS WITH JUST ONE PRODUCT
September
2008

Regardless of size, bathrooms are often seen as a ‘statement room’ in the house and an expression of the homeowner’s personal taste. Mike Wilson from bathroom manufacturer Kohler explains how you can use budget wisely to big effect.
"When updating a bathroom, budget can be varied to suit requirement. A bathroom or cloakroom can be revitalised without having to buy a whole new suite. If the existing sanitaryware is favoured or fairly new, the key is to work with these products by accessorising.
"To invigorate a tiring bathroom a cost efficient change can be to invest in new brassware. The beauty of using brassware to update an existing bathroom is that it comes in all different shapes, sizes and finishes – allowing true design freedom. A small monobloc basin mixer could be replaced with a tall design to create a grander design feel.
"Take inspiration from magazines to try something new. For example, if your suite is traditional you could add a brassware range which works alongside the existing design to create a contemporary twist.
"If your design allows for slightly more budget, you could focus on creating one statement area in the bathroom in the form of a vanity area. There is great flexibility with vessels as they can be inset into a countertop or mounted on a piece of furniture. It also gives you the opportunity to introduce colour, texture or different materials such as glass.
"Other tips include the introduction of matching accessories such as towel rings, toilet roll holders and stylish shelves. Adding mirrored cabinets is a great way to make a bathroom look bigger and help maintain a clutter free washstation. Opt for a mirror with an overhead light as the light will not only be reflected, but draws attention to the wash area.”
