House Tour - Lisa Dawson
We recently met with interiors specialist Lisa Dawson to talk about her stunning home renovation and the inspiration behind her style.
Tell us a little bit about you.
My name is Lisa Dawson, I’m an interior writer and blogger and I live in York with my husband Joe and three children, Ella, Max and Leo. Four years ago, we bought our dream home in the North and I started posting photographs of my room updates on Instagram. Together with two friends, I launched the first UK interiors hashtag #myhomevibe which now has over 1m posts and in June 2016 I started writing a blog based on styling your home on a budget. I now work full time as a writer and content creator and regularly contribute to magazines and panel talks.
How would you describe your interiors style?
Eclectic, a mix of vintage and modern with well considered investment pieces combined with repurposed and second-hand buys.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Sarah Sherman Samuel, Elsie Larson, Kelly Wearstler, my travels.
Tell us about your latest project.
I’ve recently converted our double garage, which is a semi-detached barn building, originally set up as a garage below and a basic, unheated room above which was used by my children for parties! I’ve split the garage into two, keeping one side for storage, then created a hallway and shower room on the other side. Upstairs is a large living space with kitchenette and bedroom. It’s been a long but exciting project and my intention is to use the space for my work, for guests and also as the occasional AirBNB.
What products did you use?
I used Kohler products in the shower room, I used the Purist shower unit and matching basin tap and faucet, plus a large shower tray. The Katalyst shower head was a brilliant addition too – my husband is very jealous it’s not in our own bathroom. The Vox basin was the perfect fit for the vanity surface and I chose Escale for a simple wall hung toilet design with matching chrome flush plate. In the kitchenette, the white cast iron Iron/Tones sink is ideal for the space and the Karbon tap in Vibrant Brushed Bronze is the finishing touch.
Why did you choose Kohler?
I met the Kohler team last year and was really impressed with the product range. It’s beautiful quality and innovative design made the brand my first choice when it came to furnishing The Barn.
What’s your next interiors challenge?
The guest suite in our house. It’s above the kitchen with its own separate door and comprises a bathroom and bedroom with a small landing. It’s never been touched in the four years we have been here and it’s a dumping ground for all old furniture and accessories. It needs some love!
